French fishermen do not want to comply with the British government's stipulation that only vessels that have a proven history of fishing in the waters around Jersey are allowed to do so. To express their displeasure, around 100 fishing boats on the French side are ready to set off for Jersey on Thursday. Their destination is the harbour of St Helier, which is not to be blockaded. A spokesman for the fishermen said that the boats wanted to return to their home harbours in the afternoon.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that two Royal Navy patrol boats will be sent to Jersey to monitor events there. This measure is to be understood as a purely precautionary measure. Boats from the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">River<\/span>-class. They have light armament with 30 and 20 millimetre cannons.<br \/>\nIn the dispute over fishing rights, the French Minister for the Sea, Annick Girardin, threatened to cut Jersey's electricity supply on Tuesday. Girardin is a member of the social-liberal Mouvement Radical party and has held the post since 2020.
