The minesweepers, submarines, submarine hunters and missile ships of the Northern Fleet trained a range of different scenarios under the command of the Deputy Commander of the Northern Fleet, Vice Admiral Oleg Golubev. After leaving the Severomorsk base, they first had to cross a fairway through simulated minefields and fend off attacks from attackers in speedboats. The exercises on the high seas then centred on submarine hunting exercises, in which Ka-27 helicopters with their APM-73V-MAD submersible sonar system were also deployed.
