Built by Leonardo in Yeovil, UK, the AW101 with the registration ZR285 is the first of a total of four aircraft that the Polish armed forces will receive. The maiden flight focussed on basic checks of the airframe and control systems. To this end, the flawless functioning of the engines was tested at various flight speeds. Next on the list are initial checks of the individual mission equipment.
Poland decided in favour of the AW101 in April 2019 and placed a corresponding order. The equipment includes an autopilot with SAR mode, a data transmission module, a tactical navigation system and active and passive self-defence systems, including a 12.7-millimetre machine gun. A radar for reconnaissance, FLIR and a Mode S transponder are also on board.
As the helicopter is also intended for SAR and combat SAR missions, a searchlight and other light sources were also installed. Medical and rescue equipment, such as two winches, have also been added. Additional payload can be carried externally. This means that nothing stands in the way of rescue missions in any weather and under all lighting conditions. In the event of an emergency landing at sea, there is a system that keeps the helicopter on the water surface, life rafts and equipment for survival in cold conditions.
Before the four aircraft are handed over to the Polish Navy, they will be tested with their complex systems for a total of around 700 hours.

Text: mb; Photo: Leonardo

Zum ersten Mal hob vor einigen Tagen der neueste für die polnische Marine bestimmte Hubschrauber vom Boden ab.
