The new measuring pontoon of WTD 71 was handed over fully equipped just one year after the order was placed. It will replace the now 51-year-old Bundesmessschute (BUMS). It is the latest WTD 71 unit that can be used to carry out defence-related measurements.

Blasting, shocking and measuring

The 23.1 m long and 9.3 m wide measuring pontoon was designed and manufactured with such a high shock resistance class that the containers anchored on it with their sensitive measuring equipment would not be affected during blasting tests. In close cooperation with WTD 71, Abeking & Rasmussen was able to fulfil all requirements so that the department now has an adequate platform for blast preparation, as part of the measurement setup during tests or for diving work.

Partner of the Navy

With this order, which was built on schedule, Abeking & Rasmussen was able to build on its long partnership with the Bundeswehr. A&R has designed and built more than 360 units and has been involved in all of the German Navy's mine countermeasure programmes.

Interesting facts about Abeking & Rasmussen

Abeking & Rasmussen is a German ship and yacht shipyard based in Lemwerder, near Bremen. Since its foundation in 1907, A&R has stood for quality and innovation. Since then, the shipyard has delivered to discerning owners all over the world.
