In the first week of December, a pontoon boat system for civil defence and disaster control was presented in Hamburg, which was designed in collaboration with the Bremen-based development office SZENARIS. The system offers a wide range of possibilities in military-civilian deployment scenarios.<\/p>\n
The floating platform presented is versatile and can be used individually as a transport boat or rescue boat, coupled side by side several times as a car ferry or helicopter landing pad, and coupled in series as a makeshift bridge. Navigation is semi-autonomous and utilises modern sensors such as on-board cameras and laser scanners. The system also has a remote-controlled floating drone, which enables semi-autonomous driving even in flooded and unmapped areas.<\/p>\n
The prototype emerged from a research initiative of the DIVERS programme (\"Innovation programme to support diversification strategies of companies in the defence sector in civil security technologies\") set up by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). The system was developed by a consortium consisting of General Dynamics European Land Systems - Bridge Systems GmbH (GDELS - Bridge Systems), the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), the Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems e. V., SZENARIS and the Technical University of Kaiserslautern.<\/p>\n
SZENARIS was involved in the development of a virtual reality visualisation system for prototype construction.
