The 58 metre long "Albatros" had previously undergone several months of sea trials and acceptance voyages to prove the full functionality of all systems on board. This was also of particular importance as the type boat had already been commissioned five years ago and a number of modifications were made to numbers two and three on the basis of the knowledge gained from the "Kormoran". For example, improvements were made to the sensor suite and a more modern artillery system was fitted (23mm twin replaced by 35mm OSU Naval Gun). Hence the designation of the class as KORMORAN II.

The third boat in the class, "Mewa", is still in the verification phase and is due to be handed over to the navy in 2023.
