Diehl Defence is a global manufacturer of high-tech guided missiles, innovative ammunition solutions and special reconnaissance and protection systems, which are also used in the German Navy. Diehl's ground-based and near-ground system solutions in particular set international standards, with which the further development of the navy must also keep pace in order to create innovative value for the maritime sector. Hence the reference here to a structured approach in the field grey sector: the development of a modular, safe and scalable architecture for unmanned systems under the name \"iMUGS\".<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Demo on the military training area<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

KMW (Krauss-Maffei Wegmann) presented the iMUGS project (Integrated Modular Unmanned Ground System) at the Lehnin military training area, which involved manned-unmanned teaming between the BOXER and DINGO vehicle systems via interfaces with unmanned ground vehicles and air systems. The manned vehicles manufactured by KMW act as command centres where all information from the connected systems of other manufacturers is collected, merged, evaluated and forwarded.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

That's always been the case in the navy, you might say. That's right! But there is always something new to be found in the tactically different land forces.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

New ideas<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Building on available, in-house technologies, Diehl Defence has now developed new autonomy functions for the unmanned TheMIS demonstration vehicles in the iMUGS project together with Nexter and Safran, which are purely camera-based, i.e. operate without GPS.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Various soldier support vehicles, including \"Mattro Ziesel\", are equipped with the PLATON autonomy kit developed by Diehl and follow \"reference persons\", drive autonomously along \"learnt\" routes, avoid obstacles or orientate themselves by waypoints. So far, so familiar - at least in the digitalised battlefield. The \"air dimension\", without which no movement can take place on the ground, is now also integrated. Integrated into the data network are the ground-based FK-supported IRIS-T SLS (Mk. III) air defence system, an HPEM \"SkyWolf\" (High Power Electro Magnetic) anti-drone protection system from the \"Guardion\" counter-UAS network and the remote-controlled R150 weapon station with a heavy machine gun (12.7 mm), all mobile on vehicles.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Certainly all flecktarn-coloured land technology, but nonetheless of great interest to the navies of this world, especially in the coastal area.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
