As the 14-year-old daughter of brother and journalist Rudolf Kinau, who became famous through the radio series \"H\u00f6r mal'n beten to\", Ulli Kinau was allowed to christen the ship of the young German Navy. More than ten thousand people gathered for the occasion on 23 August 1958.
