Finnish Defence Minister Antti H\u00e4kk\u00e4nen has authorised his country's defence forces to order 17 new \"Jurmo\" class landing craft, including the necessary spare parts. According to a press release issued by the Finnish Ministry of Defence at the end of June 2023, the contract worth a total of 25.5 million euros was awarded to Marine AluTech Oy AB. With the new \"Jurmos\", the naval infantry should be able to maintain its operational capability until the end of the 2030s.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The \"Jurmo\" class boats are primarily used to transport coastal infantry troops. In 2019, a refit began for the existing fleet of 36 units, whose procurement dates back to the years 2000 to 2004. The basic data: with a length of 14 metres and a width of 3.7 metres, the boats have a displacement of ten tonnes and can reach a maximum speed of 30 knots. The crew consists of two people and the armament consists of a 12.7 mm machine gun.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The boats are used for logistical purposes in the Finnish archipelago and for transporting personnel. According to the Finnish Defence Forces' website, some of the boats are capable of performing combat, patrol, escort, command and support tasks. Some can also be used to lay mines.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The boats of the \"Jurmo\" class differ significantly from the small combat boats of the \"Jehu\" class, which is being discussed as a possible equipment option for the naval battalion of the German Navy.
