Ansch\u00fctz writes that the MS \"Wavelab\" is a research platform for autonomous and semi-autonomous navigation of the Clean Autonomous Public Transportation Network (CAPTN) initiative in Kiel.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Access control<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The control centre is used to access sensors and navigation systems on board and remotely control the ship's steering and propulsion. For this purpose, a complete digital twin was set up in the control centre and supplied with all the data provided by the existing and experimental sensors and systems on board. 360-degree camera systems show real-time views on a large monitor, just like on a ferry. Multifunctional displays provide access to the navigation radar, the electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) and the control and propulsion systems of the MS \"Wavelab\". Assistance systems based on AI and with rule-based approaches support, for example, collision avoidance as well as berthing and casting off manoeuvres.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Data exchange<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">According to the CAPTN project manager at Ansch\u00fctz, the commissioning of the control centre marks a major step towards autonomous navigation. In order to exchange the large amounts of data between the control centre and the ship in real time, a powerful system architecture for maritime data communication based on a 5G mobile network and a WiFi 6 network from Addix GmbH is being set up on the fjord and on land, writes Ansch\u00fctz.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Project partners<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The Bundeswehr's project partners include the Wehrtechnische Dienststelle in Eckernf\u00f6rde (WTD 71) and the Wilhelmshaven Naval Arsenal, which also offers an ideal and protected harbour for testing autonomous driving manoeuvres in Kiel.
