For ver.di, this would be a breach of the collective agreement - jobs are seen as being at risk. ver.di called on "Cosco" to refrain from independent "lashing" and for HHLA to ensure that work at its Hamburg terminals is carried out at the Hamburg port tariff. According to the union, there are four lashing companies in Hamburg with a total of around 500 employees who work for HHLA.

Referring to the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF), ver.di emphasised that lashing work is port work and must therefore be carried out in all ports worldwide by lashers employed under collective agreements. This will now also be legally scrutinised. Incidentally, this is nothing new. According to ver.di, shipping companies around the world have repeatedly attempted to circumvent the collective bargaining regulations for harbour workers. "Cosco" is not an isolated case, as "lashers" are regularly paid better than crew members due to their collective labour agreements.

Source: taz

Hamburg: Die chinesische Staatsreederei „Cosco“ will Container künftig selbst an Bord befestigen - eine Dienstleistung, für die üblicherweise sogenannte „Lascher“ beschäftigt werden.
