The 1st International \"March of Appreciation - for our emergency services\" will take place at the official start of the 130th Kiel Week on 22 June 2024. <\/strong><\/p>\n

A barrier-free circuit of around 10 kilometres invites you to \"march\" across Kiel Week. Afterwards, there will not only be refreshments available at the naval base in Kiel - the ships of the German Navy, the German Maritime Police and other international units from around 20 nations can be viewed as part of the \"Open Ship\".<\/p>\n

Donation march<\/strong><\/p>\n

The March of Appreciation (MdW) is a charity event organised by the non-profit association Veteranenkultur e. V. The donations are used to support the families of emergency services personnel, who very often find themselves in traumatising situations during their service. However, the consequences of such events not only affect the emergency services themselves, but also place an additional burden on everyday family life; and here it is particularly the children and young people who unfortunately sometimes lose sight of the help.<\/p>\n

This donation march therefore supports the non-profit entrepreneurial organisation \"amitumKids\", which organises an annual \"TIME OUT from trauma\" for children and young people. Under professional guidance, the young people receive support in dealing with post-traumatic stress and emotional changes in everyday life, also in order to protect themselves from the development of psychological damage.<\/p>\n

At this year's MdW in Kiel, the organisers also decided to collect donations for another project close to their hearts, EHRfurcht e.V. This organisation gives stressed emergency services personnel the opportunity to reduce anxiety, calm down and recover through animal-assisted activities.<\/p>\n

Background<\/strong><\/p>\n

People \"serve\" in a wide variety of areas and represent one of the most diverse \"aid organisations\" within our society. In addition to the rescue services, the fire brigades, the police and customs, the THW and the Bundeswehr, as well as SAR and sea rescue, the dog rescue teams and rescue divers, the DLRG and water rescue and the personnel in disaster and civil protection, the personnel in control centres and prisons, psychosocial emergency care (PSNV), emergency pastoral care and crisis intervention also provide an indispensable service for the common good.<\/p>\n

All of these emergency services in Germany risk their health and lives at home and abroad for the good of our society. They support civil society in exceptional situations and find themselves in them day after day. These citizens in their various uniforms are increasingly being treated with violence and disrespect and, for example, rescue workers and firefighters are increasingly being prevented from saving lives. They are becoming targets for the frustration and violent excesses of a small section of society that has apparently lost touch with decency and respect. Instead of openness and appreciation, rejection and attacks characterise the day-to-day work of the emergency services.<\/p>\n

The March of Appreciation aims to counter the ongoing division in our society and therefore invites all democratically-minded people to take part. Civilian and state institutions and, of course, the emergency services from all areas are also invited.<\/p>\n
