The former 10,000-tonne general cargo freighter \"MS Dresden\" has served as a technical museum since 1970 and is located on the banks of the Warnow directly next to Rostock's IGA Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although the ship's engine room is in good condition, the engines have not been running for 50 years. Over the past five years, volunteers and technicians have successfully invested around 13,640 working hours in the repair of two diesel generators.<\/p>\n

In future, visitors will not only be able to view the e-diesels on the demonstration days, which the museum will announce in advance, but also hear and smell them; something very special for \"heaters\" - the smell of diesel and warming oil.<\/p>\n

The motor vessel \"Dresden\" was built at the Warnow shipyard and is the fifth ship in the Type IV series. It is the only unit still in existence today and sailed from 1958 to 1969 for Deutsche Seereederei Rostock (DSR) on liner services to East Asia, Indonesia, Africa, India and Latin America. Because the first ship in this class of fifteen newbuildings was christened \"Peace\" in 1957, the series is also known as the \"Type Peace\".<\/p>\n
