A lot has happened since then: with a good 660,000 nautical miles - a distance equivalent to around 1,220,000 kilometres - the frigate has circumnavigated the world around 30 times. The men and women of the ship visited harbours such as Tunis, Walfish Bay in Namibia, Port Victoria in the Seychelles and New York. In Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, the permanent NATO task forces and most recently the United Nations mission in Lebanon UNIFIL, they demonstrated the ship's operational readiness. The current commander is Frigate Captain Robert Meyer-Brenkhof.

The "Brandenburg" is currently undergoing repairs at the naval arsenal in Wilhelmshaven before being reassigned to a permanent NATO task force for around five months at the beginning of next year.

Text: Caroline Lindner

Der "rote Adler" ist das älteste Kampfschiff der Deutschen Marine Am 19.
