On 14 January 2025, Dr Eva H\u00f6gl, the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Armed Forces, visited the German Navy's largest school, the Naval Technology School (MTS) in Parow. The purpose of the routine visit was to engage in direct dialogue with servicemen and women in order to gain first-hand impressions and hear their concerns.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the visit, Dr H\u00f6gl exchanged views with the school management before talks with all rank groups followed. The exchange was particularly intensive during the small arms training, during which the defence commissioner was able to talk to young recruits. Another focal point was the Ship Technology department, where the head of the department presented the modern training infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Dr Eva H\u00f6gl's term of office regularly ends in May 2025 after five years. The office of Parliamentary Commissioner for the Armed Forces is filled by election on the recommendation of the German Bundestag and can only be held by a person who is a German citizen, has reached the age of 35 and is not an active member of the Bundeswehr. These requirements are intended to guarantee the independence and neutrality of the office. The main task is to act as an intermediary between parliament, the Bundeswehr and soldiers and to protect their rights.<\/p>\n
