Panama and Barbados have already cancelled several ships from their flag registers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The current sanctions against <strong>Russian oil tankers<\/strong> many ships have to look for a new flag state. The sanctions are putting increasing pressure on Moscow's shipping network.<\/p>\n<p>After Panama has already removed almost 70 ships from its register, Barbados is now following suit: The ship registry of the Caribbean state announced that 46 ships from the Russian shadow fleet would be flagged out. The owners have been asked to take up the country's flag due to new British sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>Flag states play a central role in maintaining maritime safety standards. Their actions could slow down Russian logistics operations and thus hinder the machinery of war. Countries such as Tanzania and S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe are being favoured. Analyses show that the use of such flags makes it easier to circumvent international sanctions. Efforts are therefore being made within the EU and Western countries to restrict these practices through stricter regulations for third countries.
