The commander of Operational Flotilla 2, Captain Sven Beck, welcomed numerous guests from politics, society and international partners to a maritime ceremony.<\/p>\n

Particularly noteworthy was the warm welcome given to the friends of the Danish Home Defence Flotilla, who have been guests at the weekend on the Jade for 33 years. The Danish officers were welcomed with a special round of applause, which emphasised the close ties between the maritime partners. Thanks also went to the crew and team of the \"Nordrhein-Westfalen\", who had organised the reception with maritime flair. In his speech, Captain Beck emphasised the importance of the SOPA reception as an expression of a strong maritime self-image and a deep common interest in security policy dialogue. He emphasised that the event represents a lively connection between Wilhelmshaven, politics, society and international partners. \"In times when the world order is under pressure and the fragility of peace and freedom is becoming apparent, it is all the more important to know that we have reliable partners at our side,\" said Beck. He emphasised that defence is not just a task for the armed forces, but a responsibility for society as a whole. Security is not only created by weapons and equipment, but also by attitude, will and cooperation.\" The commander referred to the current challenges posed by<\/p>\n

It is precisely now that the qualities that characterise naval forces are becoming apparent: steadfastness, performance, operational readiness and determination. Beck also appealed to representatives from industry, trade and the authorities: Their expertise and capacities were indispensable for the growth of the navy. Operational Flotilla 2 will grow - in addition to additional ships and tasks, reserve operational companies will be set up and basic training for homeland defence will be carried out. Wilhelmshaven will develop into a strategic anchor point for Europe's maritime security. In conclusion, Beck emphasised: \"In order to meet the challenges of the future, we must secure Germany's defence capability structurally and sustainably - both in terms of personnel and material.\" It is essential that society, politics and the armed forces stand together behind this task.<\/p>\n

The festive setting was accompanied by music from the Wilhelmshaven Naval Music Corps. The highlight of the evening was once again the traditional flag parade with the parade of honour and music corps - an impressive symbol of maritime tradition and solidarity. This year's SOPA reception in Wilhelmshaven remains an important symbol of the cohesion within the German Navy and of the close partnership with international allies in the service of European security.<\/p>\n
