Evidence of a strong interest in habitats on and in the water.
The German Oceanographic Museum has a total of four locations, which complement each other and form a common, unified museum identity. The MEERESMUSEUM is located in Stralsund's old town (Katharinenberg) with exhibitions and aquariums and takes you into tropical underwater worlds with dark volcanic rock, colourful coral reefs and unusually patterned fish from the underwater worlds of the Caribbean, Pacific and Indian Oceans.

The car-free natural history museum on the Darß peninsula is home to the NATUREUM in the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park right next to the Darßer Ort lighthouse. There are car parks in Prerow, Wieck, Born and Ahrenshoop. From there you can continue on foot, by bike, by coach or on the Darßbahn railway.

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="wp-image-47669" src="/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/B2_Karte_DMM-Standorte_Quelle_Deutsches-Meeresmuseum-Kopie-300x200.jpg" alt="Map of DMM locations. It is also equipped with rooms for scientific research and the preservation of dead marine animals. The depot is currently not open to visitors.

The OZEANEUM is located on the harbour island of Stralsund. There you can discover a unique underwater journey through the northern seas in "Europe's Museum of the Year 2010" and learn interesting facts about various marine topics and the Baltic Sea, the sea on our doorstep. And after the tour through the aquariums, the "Sea for Children" awaits the youngsters. Let yourself be surprised.

If the weather is unpredictable, the Oceanographic Museum recommends booking an online ticket in advance with a fixed time slot for the late afternoon.

kdk, NDR
