Raytheon has specified an existing contract for the supply of spare parts for the Standard Missile-2 (SM-2) missile to US allies under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme worth USD 141 million and announced the production schedule in a press release.<\/p>\n
According to the US Department of Defence, the fixed-price modification supports the procurement of spare parts for five governments. Japan accounts for the largest share with 57 %, followed by Australia (19 %), the Netherlands (13 %), Spain (6 %) and Germany (5 %). The work will be carried out at two locations in the USA, in East Camden\/Arkansas at 72% and in Tucson\/Arizona at 28%, and is expected to be completed by June 2030.<\/p>\n
The SM-2 is a surface-to-air missile with ranges from 165 km (medium range) to 370 km (extended range), which was developed for the air defence of the fleet and the self-defence of ships. The missile flies at 3.5 Mach and can intercept and destroy aircraft and anti-ship missiles in flight. The SM-2 is used by both the US Navy and allied naval forces and is still in production in the USA.<\/p>\n
In the German Navy, the SM-2 is scaffolded on the Sachsen class ships.<\/p>\n
