Picture: NATO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With this exercise, the alliance specifically prepared for underwater conflicts and demonstrated the cooperation of the allied navies \"to secure sea lines of communication, protect critical infrastructure and improve underwater warfare capabilities,\" NATO said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Submarines from Sweden and Germany (U-35), a US Navy maritime patrol aircraft (P-8A Poseidon) as well as French, German, Dutch and Swedish surface ships and helicopters took part in \"Playbook Merlin 25\". The exercise was led by NATO's Allied Maritime Command in Northwood\/UK and organised by Sweden.
