This was emphasised by the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association (VSM) and IG Metall Küste.

„Shipbuilding and marine technology are an industry of the future with strategic importance for Germany and Europe - technological leaders, strong exporters and relevant to safety,“ explained Dr Reinhard Lüken, Managing Director of the VSM. „The European Maritime Industrial Strategy presented by the EU Commission is a strong signal. It recognises that shipbuilding and marine technology are systemically relevant for Europe's economic security, defence capability and technological sovereignty. Germany is the leading industrial nation in Europe in the entire shipbuilding and marine technology value chain. For the strategy to have a tangible impact on the real economy, the member states in particular must take action. The German government is aware of this, as it has made a decisive contribution to the Commission's presentation of the maritime industrial strategy. What matters now is pragmatic, results-orientated action.“

The industry is at a crucial point. The demand in key markets is huge and in many cases strategically justified - for example due to changing security policy requirements, energy policy transformations and sustainable technology. At the same time, these opportunities are not a foregone conclusion.

IG Metall Küste also emphasised the importance of the sector in terms of industrial and labour market policy. „Despite full order books at German shipyards and the announced increase in employment, the industry is facing major challenges. All shipyards and suppliers must be involved, this is the only way to achieve this. To achieve this, the industry must work together even more closely and constructively. Securing skilled labour is becoming a decisive factor for the future viability and competitiveness of the industry, and not just because of demographics. It is now crucial to increase the attractiveness of maritime professions and to recruit more young people - especially women, explained Daniel Friedrich, District Manager IG Metall Küste.

In view of the changed geopolitical situation, both organisations warned of growing security policy and economic dependencies. The dream of a rules-based world order could no longer be considered a guiding principle. A strong European framework for the maritime industry must be based on the real conditions in the global market.

VSM and IG Metall Küste expressly welcome the latest signals from Brussels in favour of a stronger „Made in Europe“ orientation. „If public funds are used, they must also strengthen European value creation and industrial expertise. This is a key building block for resilience and growth in Europe,“ said Dr Lüken.

With a view to the 14th National Maritime Conference in Emden in April, both organisations formulated a clear expectation: the conference must deliver concrete industrial policy decisions. „The maritime industry is strategically relevant for security, energy supply, climate protection and good industrial work. Now is the time to translate this strength into a long-term political strategy,“ emphasised Daniel Friedrich.

Watch the presentation of the press conference here

Contact: e-mail | LinkedIn

VSM and IG Metall Küste: The maritime industry in Germany is facing considerable growth opportunities - but needs clear political priorities and reliable framework conditions to realise them.

[50,486,42,49,52
12265,12266,12267,10982,1647,1565,213,1147,12264,7553
post-53863","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sicherheitspolitik-news","category-headlines","category-news","category-schiffsbau-news","category-technologie-news","tag-europaeische-maritime-industriestrategie","tag-fachkraeftesicherung","tag-geopolitische-lage","tag-industriepolitik","tag-maritime-industrie","tag-meerestechnik","tag-nationale-maritime-konferenz","tag-schiffbau","tag-strategische-bedeutung","tag-wertschoepfungskette
["GET
