Berlin celebrates 25 years of \"Berlin\": The task force supplier <\/b>\u201eBerlin\u201c (A 1411) <\/b>of the German Navy was put into service 25 years ago<\/b><\/p>\n
This was announced by the Freundeskreis Einsatzgruppenversorger Berlin e.V. in a press release on 11 April. The German Navy is celebrating a special anniversary on 11 April 2026: On this day in 2001, the Einsatzgruppenversorger \u201eBerlin\u201c (A 1411) was the first of the three EGVs to enter service. At the same time, the city of Berlin took over sponsorship of the ship. The \u201eBerlin\u201c has now been in service as the logistical backbone of the fleet for a quarter of a century. To mark the 20th anniversary of its service, the \u201eBerlin\u201c task force provider was awarded the Berlin State Flag Ribbon by Governing Mayor Michael M\u00fcller in 2021.<\/p>\n
The namesake of the ships, often referred to as the \"parliamentary class\", was followed by the \"Frankfurt am Main\" in 2002 and finally the \"Bonn\" in 2013, whose construction incorporated the extensive experience gained from the first two ships. The task force supply ships play a central role in supplying combat units at sea, both in the German Navy and in NATO. They ensure the sustainability of ship formations far from their home port.<\/p>\n
As a non-profit organisation, the Circle of Friends promotes the connection between the sponsor city of Berlin and the \u201eBerlin\u201c task force supply ship. It brings together active and former crew members, naval enthusiasts and supporters. It also supports the crew during their stays in the capital and keeps the tradition of sponsorship alive. On board the Berlin, you will therefore not only find the capital's coat of arms, but also street names and squares.<\/p>\n
