An attempt is being made to revive the connection to Spain's history and national colours - as well as pride in the country's flag - through first names (a Spaniard has at least three of them). During a visit to the Naval Museum in Madrid (well worth seeing, by the way!), a grandfather (who was a naval officer himself) explains to his grandchildren (\u201e... the flag is just a boring old cloth ...\u201c) the connection between their first names \u201eIsabel\u201c and \u201eJuan\u201c and Spain's history - from the historic discovery of America to Spain's most recent expedition to Antarctica.<\/p>\n<p>And the Armada has been involved in all of this for almost 250 years. Sailed or sailed on ships, mostly under the \u201eRojigualda\u201c, the highly visible national flag in red-yellow-red signal colours with the characteristic coat of arms and the banner \u201eplus ultra\u201c (further out) of Spain's seafaring explorers, held by two pillars as a symbol of the Strait of Gibraltar. The whole thing is somewhat clich\u00e9d, but understandable against the backdrop of unbroken Spanish national pride.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/FrsOw50obb8?si=hH4FDcruoJyiVrFu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><button class=\"mfo-button\">Watch video<\/button><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spanish navy relies on animated film to attract new recruits.
