More than 250 ships from all over the world are expected at SAiL BREMERHAVEN, which will take place from 14 to 18 August 2030. Two-, three- and four-masters, barques and full-rigged ships will bring the maritime heritage to life and connect visitors directly with the world of shipping. The event is therefore a special attraction for seafaring enthusiasts.

The 2025 edition already showed that the SAiL has lost none of its impact. According to the organisers, 1.4 million visitors came to Bremerhaven last year, exceeding expectations. Despite the long interruption due to the pandemic - the SAiL only takes place every five years - interest remained unbroken. In fact, the return of the major event after ten years proved to be a clear success with the public.

However, financing remains a key task for 2030. According to current plans, the city is expecting a deficit of around 1.5 million euros with total costs of around 3.4 million euros. The missing funds are to be applied for from the state, which had already contributed almost 1.2 million euros in 2025. If a higher grant is not received, the programme would have to be cut, according to the economic department. Alternatively, funds from the municipal budget or additional sponsors could be considered. However, there is still time to find viable solutions before the next SAiL.

Those who don't want to wait until 2030 will find maritime highlights in the calendar as early as 2026. These include the Maritime Days Bremerhaven from 12 to 16 August, Kiel Week from 20 to 28 June and the Wilhelmshaven Sailing Cup from 2 to 4 October 2026.

kdk, butenunbinnen

Featured image: SAiL2025 - sailors' hearts beat faster.
