A huge steel structure is currently being built in Rosyth, Scotland, for the construction of the Type 31 frigates. From 2021, the 147-metre-long building will enable the construction of two new frigates side by side, regardless of the weather conditions. Once completed, the new buildings will leave the hall via 30 metre high \"megadoors\". Babcock is investing 31.5 million pounds sterling in this innovation, with construction starting in April 2020.<\/p>\n
The future frigates are due to join the Royal Navy in 2027. The overall programme is estimated to cost around \u00a32 billion.
