The aim of the visit is to obtain \"Ready for Operations\" status. This certifies that the crew can take off and land the new F-35B safely. An American test team from the Joint Programme Office (JPO) is on board for this purpose. They carry out various manoeuvres, tests and inspections. These include flight tests involving ships from the US 2nd Fleet and American aircraft. On their way across the Atlantic, the Italians were able to complete a three-day manoeuvre with the US destroyer <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">Stout<\/span>F\/A-18 from Carrier Air Wings 7 and a P-8 Poseidon from Reconnaisance Wing 11.<br \/>\nThe contact for all logistical questions during the stay in Norfolk is the American aircraft carrier <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">John C. Stennis<\/span>. Its crew supports the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">Cavour<\/span> in supply, personnel transfer, security and medical matters.<br \/>\nThe F-35 Pax River Integrated Test Force (ITF), a team from Naval Air Station Patuxent River, is responsible for flight training.
