Over the past six weeks, the ship, which was commissioned in 2005, has been repaired in the Amsterdam shipyard and prepared for its next task. As part of the British Carrier Strike Group centred around Queen Elizabeth the Evertsen will embark on a 40,000 kilometre journey to Asia from May. It will also call at Japan. Manoeuvres will also be held together with the Japanese Self-Defence Forces.
In addition to the aircraft carrier, the group also includes two Type 45 destroyers (HMS Diamond and HMS Defender), two Type 23 frigates (HMS Richmond and HMS Kent) and supply ships. A nuclear attack submarine will accompany the strike group for long stretches. And it is not only the Dutch who support the deployment. With the Arleigh-Burke-Destroyer USS The Sullivans also incorporates an American ship into the force. The result is a powerful, multinational group. For the Queen Elizabeth it is the first major deployment. The carrier will not be travelling east without teeth: Two operational squadrons with the new British F-35Bs will be embarked on board.
With the Evertsen is one of four air defence and commando frigates of the Dutch Navy. They are almost 145 metres long and displace 6050 tonnes. Their crew consists of around 200 people. The ships are armed with a Vertical Launch System for up to 40 SM-2 and Evolved Sea Sparrow missiles. In addition, there are two Harpoon quad launchers, a 127-millimetre Oto Melara cannon and two Goalkeepers for defence against approaching FKs.

The world's oldest tricolour proudly flies again at the stern of the Evertsen

Text: mb; Photo: Damen Shipyards

Damen Shiprepair hat in dieser Woche die Fregatte Evertsen an die niederländische Marine zurückgegeben.
