In the presence of the Minister of Defence, Florence Parly, the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">Alsace<\/span> to the French procurement authority DGA. This makes her the seventh Fremm frigate for the French Navy. The ship's keel was laid in February 2018 and has been undergoing sea trials since October last year. According to the shipyard, the entire construction programme was completed on schedule.<br \/>\nAlthough the Alsace is the seventh Fremm frigate to be built for the German Navy, it is the first ship to be designed specifically for air defence. In future, she will be deployed in this role in battle formations around the aircraft carrier <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">Charles de Gaulle <\/span>or the amphibious assault ships of the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">Mistral<\/span>-class. In order to carry out its task, the Alsace was equipped with additional defence systems in addition to the weapons available for sub-hunting. It therefore has a 76-millimetre cannon, 8 Exocet MM 40 Block 3, 32 Aster 30 air defence FKs and 19 MU-90 torpedoes. In addition, a Caiman, the French version of the NH 90 helicopter, can be carried. The weapons and sensors are controlled by the Samahe command and weapon system, also developed by Naval. To monitor the air and sea space, the frigate is equipped with an upgraded version of the Herkules multi-beam radar from Thales.<br \/>\nThe Fremm frigates are 142 metres long and displace around 6000 tonnes with a beam of 20 metres. They have a maximum speed of 27 knots and a range of 6000 miles at 15 knots.<br \/>\nAnother air defence frigate, the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">Lorraine<\/span>is to be delivered by Naval as early as next year. In addition to the Marine Nationale, two other navies have also opted for the French Fremm.
