The company has 130 employees and develops and produces electronics for civil and military use. Applications in the defence sector include small 2D and 3D radar systems, consoles, integrated bridge systems, electro-optical fire control systems, inertial navigation systems and electronic nautical charts. Most recently, GEM developed and installed a helo-decking radar for the Italian Navy.
According to Leonardo, the product areas of the two companies complement each other, as GEM is active in areas that the new shareholder is hardly involved in. In future, synergies are to be utilised in the areas of development, marketing and sales. Leonardo is no stranger to GEM, as the medium-sized company has been a supplier for many years, for example as part of the Fremm programme.
At the same time, Leonardo has secured the option to purchase further shares in the company in 2024.

MFRAD-3D

Text: mb; Photos: GEM Elettronica

Der italienische Rüstungskonzern Leonardo hat einen Anteil von 30 Prozent der Firma GEM Elettronica erworben.
