The optimisation and tests are part of the early development phase during the ship design. The properties of the planned ship will be tested realistically. A scale model of the F 126, several metres long, will be on display for the first time. Together with its partners Blohm+Voss and Thales, Damen will build a total of four Class 126 frigate ships on behalf of the German Navy after the partners were able to win a multi-year European tender last year. The first ship is due to be handed over to the German Navy in Hamburg in 2028. The ships will be built in Hamburg, Kiel and Wolgast and thus entirely in Germany.
By commissioning HSVA, which is as traditional as it is innovative, Damen is relying on German expertise to test and trial the ship design. The ship model will be analysed in various test facilities at HSVA over the next few months. In addition to resistance, propulsion and manoeuvring tests in smooth water, the behaviour in rough seas will also be examined and special attention will be paid to a first-class propeller design. This extensive test programme is the only way to ensure that the high demands placed on the frigate can be met later on. The test and simulation phase is followed by further development work and the integration of hundreds of subsystems.

Graphic of the future F 126

Text: mb; Illustrations: Ladies
