Das Beschaffungsamt der Bundeswehr hat einen weiteren Hochseeschlepper für die Deutsche Marine gebraucht gekauft. Der Schlepper soll unter dem Namen "Borkum" fahren und wurde aufgrund seines geringen Alters von nur zwei Jahren ausgewählt. Die Kaufsumme liegt nach Angaben aus Koblenz im niedrigen zweistelligen Millionen-Euro-Bereich. Die Beschaffung wurde innerhalb von fünf Monaten realisiert. Derzeit fährt der Schlepper „Britoil Guardian“ unter der Flagge Singapurs mit der IMO Nummer 9797280. Under the direction of U.S. Central Command, the Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore Capability (JLOTS) was to be brought to bear within 60 days. This includes a floating pontoon anchored off the coast and a two-lane floating pier that provides the connection to the mainland.
