Iran hijacks oil tanker - Tit for Tat?

An initially diffuse situation consolidates over the course of the day. At 04:30 (CET) on 11 January, UKTMO (United Kingdom Marine Trade Operations, Portsmouth) issued the initial report that unknown persons had boarded a ship. It was later reported that 4 to 5 masked gunmen in military-looking clothing had seized the vessel about 50 nautical miles east of Sohar, Oman. Later in the day, Iranian state media reported the seizure of an oil tanker by the Iranian navy in the Gulf of Oman. The ship in question is the crude oil tanker "St. Nikolas" (flag state Marshall Islands), which had been stranded in Basrah, Iraq, after loading...

The maritime idea gets an institute

An audience of around 50 listened with fascination to the lecture by retired Captain Rolf Martens, the last surviving of the seven founding members of the German Naval Institute at the German Armed Forces Command and Staff College. Where is the "maritime DNA" of the Germans?

In contrast to many other countries, the maritime sector has only a low public profile in Germany. Despite the country's dependence on open sea routes. The Federal Chancellor opened the meeting with his usual sober speech on Germany's maritime dependency, emphasising that the problems were known. We are working on them and are "on the move". The downfall of the Westerners

You read the headline "4-day week in the navy!" This causes confusion. Our minister, Boris Pistorius, our inspector general, General Carsten Breuer, and our naval inspector, Vice Admiral Jan Christian Kaack, mention it again and again: "Just do it!" And they also say that the existing regulations and directives can be stretched to the limit - as long as no one is disadvantaged and operational readiness is not jeopardised. The 3rd Minesweeping Squadron has "just done it" in the current pilot project of the Operational Flotilla 1. Access marineforum digital+ Are you already a registered user?
