On the last weekend in January, the large workshop ship "PM-82" of the Russian Navy could be seen travelling eastwards in the Fehmarnbelt. The Amur-class ship (project 304, 122 metres, 5,600 tonnes) was accompanied on its journey from Tartus in Syria to Baltiysk by the support ship "Sergey Balk", which has been commuting between the Baltic Sea and the Middle East for almost a year. London - The UK has moved a step closer to the military use of lasers after successfully trialling its new laser project. The UK Ministry of Defence announced that the "DragonFire" energy system has shot down several drones with laser beams while flying off the coast of Scotland for the first time. At around 2.45 p.m. (CET) on 14 January 2024, there was an attack on a US Navy ship in the sea area off Hodeidah. According to reports from US Central Command, the missile fired at the "USS Laboon" (DDG 58, 1st batch, in service since 1995) was intercepted and neutralised by an unidentified US fighter aircraft. There was no evidence of damage to people or material. The missile was fired from a Houthi-controlled area in south-west Yemen. Ukraine will not be able to participate in the mine clearance operation agreed between the Black Sea navies of Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria. As expected, Turkey has told its NATO allies that it will not allow the two minehunting units (M108 HMS "Grimsby" and M112 HMS "Shoreham") handed over to Ukraine by the UK to transit its waters through the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits.
