ITS Cavour visits Norfolk
The Italian aircraft carrier Cavour (CVH 550) has been in Norfolk, Virginia, since mid-February. The aim of the visit is to obtain "Ready for Operations" status. This certifies to the crew that the new F-35B can take off and land safely. An American test team from the Joint Programme Office (JPO) is on board for this purpose. They carry out various manoeuvres, tests and inspections. These include flight tests involving ships from the US 2nd Fleet and American aircraft.
