Fassmer builds OPV for Singapore

According to a press release issued by Singapore's Ministry of Defence on 20 November 2023, the city state is procuring four new offshore patrol vessels (OPVs), which will be manufactured by German shipyard Fassmer. According to the announcement, the units are based on the design of the OPVs used by the German Federal Police. This suggests that they will be vehicles similar to the Potsdam class. The OPVs are to be delivered in stages from 2028. Until then, the existing Sentinel-class Maritime Security and Response Vessels (MSRV - as classified by Singapore) will remain in service. Baptised "Stollergrund"

From contract to delivery in record time On 4 July, we reported on the renewal of the fleet of the Navy's Wehrtechnische Dienststelle der Marine, WTD 71. On Friday, 30 June 2023, the first of two newbuildings of the "Messboote Seeversuche Küste" was christened "Kalkgrund". Now the second boat in this class has also been christened "Stollergrund" by Mrs Maren Jonas, wife of the mayor of Schwedeneck, at the Fassmer shipyard in Berne. The two boats complete the planning of the WTD 71 for the time being. At the end of October, United States Navy Ship (USNS) ROBERT F. KENNEDY (T-AO 208) was christened and launched at General Dynamics - National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (GD-NASSCO) in San Diego, California. Honouring USNS "Robert F. Kennedy" is the first naval auxiliary to bear his name in honour of the late US veteran. Robert Francis ("Bobby") Kennedy served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1944 to 1946, was Attorney General of the United States from 1961 to 1964, and served as Senator for New York in the House from 1965 until his violent death in 1968.
