TAMSEN MARITIM delivers new STS boats for the German Navy

STS: security, transport and towing The Defence Technical Centre (WTD 71) for Ships and Naval Weapons, Maritime Technology and Research in Eckernförde will receive two new STS boats from TAMSEN MARITIM in Rostock. The workboats will replace the class 744 (e.g. AK2) and will be delivered to WTD 71 with a time delay from the end of 2022. The contract was awarded by the Federal Office of Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) as part of a Europe-wide procurement procedure. Areas closed for firing exercises The Russian Navy has announced exercise areas for a large part of the Black Sea and most of the Sea of Azov, effectively restricting shipping to Ukrainian commercial ports. Commercial shipping and air traffic are advised to avoid the designated areas from 13 to 19 February. One area covers the northern entrance to the Kerch Strait, which could cut off Ukrainian ports on the Sea of Azov from shipping for the duration of the exercise.
