Seven new dwarves

Die französische Generaldirektion für Rüstung (DGA) hat im Juni sieben weitere neue Bugsierschlepper der Zehn-Tonnen-Klasse für die Marine Nationale bestellt. Der Auftrag hat nach Angaben des Verteidigungsministeriums in Paris einen Wert von mehr als acht Millionen Euro. Mit dieser Order summiert sich die Anzahl der bestellten Einheiten auf 22 Stück, angepeilt sind mittelfristig 29 Schlepper dieses Typs. Russian submarine awaits launch

The Russian Ministry of Defence reports that the Krasnoyarsk submarine will be launched on 30 July. The ceremony in Severodvinsk will be led by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov. The Krasnoyarsk is a Jasen M-class boat (Project 885M) and is categorised by the Russians as an underwater missile cruiser. She was the third boat in the Yasen-M class to be laid down in 2014. The submarines, which displace 8600 tonnes and are 130 metres long, are powered by a pressurised water reactor. Mitsubishi launches MRRV

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding is also celebrating: the first of two new vessels for the Philippine Coast Guard was launched today (26 July) with colourful balloons and ribbons at the shipyard in Shimonoseki, southern Japan. The Multi-Role Response Vessels (MRRV) will be used for SAR missions, including in heavy weather and for patrols in offshore and coastal areas. Operations against smugglers will be at the centre of activities. The MRRVs, which are almost 97 metres long and displace 2,260 tonnes, can travel at a maximum speed of 24 knots. The operational radius is 4000 nautical miles. In addition to RHIBs, the 67-strong crew will also have a Remotely Operated Battleship at their disposal for the missions.

Launching of the fourth corvette for Saudi Arabia

The fourth corvette for Saudi Arabia was launched at Navantia in San Fernando in southern Spain last Saturday (24 July). First flight of the Polish AW101

The latest helicopter destined for the Polish Navy took off from the ground for the first time a few days ago. Built by Leonardo in Yeovil, UK, the AW101 with the registration ZR285 is the first of a total of four aircraft that the Polish armed forces will receive. The maiden flight focussed on basic checks of the airframe and control systems. To this end, the flawless functioning of the engines was tested at various flight speeds.
