"USS Connecticut": Underwater collision in the South China Sea

Submerged on patrol in the South China Sea, the nuclear-powered Seawolf-class submarine runs into an unknown underwater object. The incident occurred on 2 October. According to the US 7th Fleet, the "USS Connecticut" was in international waters. Eleven crew members suffered injuries such as bruises and lacerations. Two of the cases were categorised as 'moderate', the others as 'minor'. After the collision, the submarine was able to continue its journey. Change of management at the Centre for Operational Testing in Eckernförde

On Thursday, 7 October at 10.30 a.m., the Commander of the Naval Support Command, Flotilla Admiral Lars Holm (60), will hand over command of the Operational Test Centre from Captain Jörg Dieter Lorentzen (54) to Captain Thomas Jaensch (54). Gorch Fock back in Kiel - The odyssey's final act....

After more than 2,200 days in the shipyard, the German Navy's training sailing ship, the Gorch Fock, has returned to its traditional berth in its home harbour - and the pier now also bears the name of the poet Rudolf Kinau, alias "Gorch Fock". First container ship refuelled with SNG

On 29 September 2021, the first commercial container ship was refuelled with CO2-neutral synthetic LNG in Brunsbüttel. This makes the "ElbBLUE", owned by the German shipping company Elbdeich and registered in Limassol, the first ship in the world to run on synthetic natural gas (SNG). Built in China in 2012, the container ship is 153 metres long and has a displacement of 13,200 tonnes and can transport 1,036 containers. Originally powered by heavy fuel oil, the MAN 8L48/60B diesel engine from MAN Energy Solutions was converted to the MAN 51/60DF four-stroke engine in 2017.
