Four Chinese submarines for Pakistan's navy

Ten years ago, the Pakistani navy ordered a total of eight diesel-electric submarines as a slightly smaller export version of the Chinese Yuan class from the Wuchang shipyard in Wuhan (type 039B, 78 metres, 3,200 tonnes). Four of the boats are being delivered directly from Wuhan, while another four are under construction in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyards & Engineering Works using supplies from China. This also includes the Stirling engine for the air-independent propulsion system. Following the launch of the type boat "Hangor" a year ago and the second boat "Shushuk" six months ago, the third Pakistani boat was christened "Mangro" and launched in mid-August. The Hangor class is said to be capable of firing both heavy torpedoes and anti-ship cruise missiles from its torpedo tubes. However, it is also expected that Pakistan's submarine-compatible nuclear weapon Babur-3 (SLBM - Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile) with a range of around 450 kilometres will be deployable in this way.
