Many thanks for the article by Sidney E. Dean on US Navy ship procurement in issue 10. Many of his observations on the problem of shipyards, lack of skilled labour, unpredictable orders due to annual procurement in Congressional budgets, etc. could be applied in a scaled-down form to Europe and its navies.
Experts have known this for decades (!) and - like Dean here - point out the problems. Changes of a fundamental nature: not happening.
In view of the construction of warships in China, there should also be a turning point in Europe. Is there anything recognisable on the horizon here?
