NVL builds patrol boats for Egypt
NVL Egypt, a joint venture between Naval Vessels Lürssen and two Egyptian shipbuilding companies, was selected as prime contractor in September 2023 and has started construction of ten PV43-M patrol boats for the Egyptian Navy on schedule this September. The 43-metre offshore patrol boats (270 tonnes) are based on the design of the Croatian Omis-class coast guard boats and are designed for maritime surveillance, reconnaissance and the protection of critical maritime infrastructure. All ten units will be built entirely in Alexandria/Egypt with technical support from the German NVL to strengthen the local naval industry - only some weapon and command systems will be supplied by European defence companies.
