Anschütz supplies mine defence guidance system for Indonesian boats
Abeking & Rasmussen (Lemwerder, Bremen) had commissioned Anschütz (Kiel) with the development and delivery of an integrated solution for mine defence (Mine Countermeasures - MCM) for two mine countermeasure units of the Indonesian Navy. The first of the two brand-new vessels, which are among the most modern of their kind, is currently successfully completing its sea trials. Both units are to be delivered to the Indonesian Navy before the end of this year.
The integrated solution consists of navigation and bridge systems, an integrated SYNTACS command and control system and a modern sonar for mine hunting. A newly developed software module provides the necessary functions for planning, executing, coordinating and monitoring MCM operations. It makes the processes on board lean, efficient and safe, from the start of the MCM operation to the success of the mission.
SYNTACS creates a comprehensive operational picture based on nautical charts and the on-board navigation and monitoring sensors. The MCM module uses this image to plan and allocate search areas and search routes, either individually or according to predefined patterns. The MCM solution offers object tracking above and under water as well as classification according to NATO standards. The objects and their exact position are integrated into the common operational situation picture and forwarded in real time to all workstations on board.
SYNTACS can be installed as a stand-alone system or integrated with radar and electronic chart display and information systems (WECDIS-Warship Electronic Chart Display and Information System, see also article MFO from 21/08/2021). This enables navigation and operational planning from a single source with standardised user interfaces and reduced training requirements. SYNTACS is based on commercially available naval hardware and modular software and provides a cost-effective but powerful solution for mine detection and countermeasures. Efficient mine countermeasures are crucial for safe maritime transport and the protection of maritime infrastructure.
