Armaments and SMEs: Battle for heads and hands

The advance in armaments is seen as an opportunity for the economy. However, it could prove to be a crushing burden on the manufacturing SME sector.

Money is there - or rather: made available. The new law on accelerated planning and procurement for the Bundeswehr has optimised the framework. The procedures should finally gain momentum and small and medium-sized companies could contribute to the pace. The streamlining of the procurement system must take effect from the turn of the year. It is already foreseeable that even all of this will not lead straight to the hoped-for turnaround. It is likely that the weak points and hurdles in the system will continue to prove too numerous and the overlaps with the needs and approaches of SMEs too small. And it is also conceivable that the advance in armaments for what is left of the manufacturing SME sector in the metal and electrical industry in Germany will continue,
