Career in the navy: Fresh cell cure 25s

Since the early 1990s, the Bundeswehr has been aligned with the changing security policy challenges. As part of this process, the number of naval posts has been reduced from around 30,000 to currently around 15,000, while the number of floating and airborne weapons systems has fallen from around 380 to around 110. At the same time, the intensity of naval operations has increased. It is currently involved in six international missions and mission-equivalent obligations and is supporting the national fight against the pandemic. The navy is also continuing its modernisation process. In order to do justice to this, the smallest navy of all time is therefore dependent on ensuring the operational readiness of its forces....

The sea shapes the character

The Gorch Fock's time in the shipyard lasted almost six years. Why the sail training ship is still indispensable for training in the navy. This article should actually be unnecessary, as knowledge of the purpose and benefits of maritime and nautical training is part of the self-image of every naval officer. However, the discussions in recent years about the preservation of the Gorch Fock and the purpose of training have also shown a different picture. A breath of fresh air in new sails

An important part of the training at the Mürwik Naval Academy is the newly introduced military sailing training. This makes the modern Sunbeam boats irreplaceable aids. A lot has happened in the boat harbour at Mürwik Naval Academy in 2020. Firstly, seven new service sailboats were put into use at the MSM last summer (see MarineForum 10/2020), while at the same time the service sailing programme was completely redesigned under the title Military Sail Training (MSA). Both have played a key role in...

"If you want to build a ship, don't start by collecting wood, cutting planks and organising the work. Instead, awaken in people a longing for the vast, endless sea." - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Working in the information space, cyberwarfare, the use of armed drones, digital natives, distance leadership - buzzwords that influence our current military thinking and the people in the navy to a large extent and dominate our perception. Shaping and inspiring

Leadership is at the centre of training at the Mürwik Naval Academy. The aim is to inspire officers and officer cadets for their future work by focussing largely on practical experience. The manoeuvre whistle blows loudly through the harbour shortly after the departure and safety briefing has been held at the manoeuvre stations. The ship sets sail in accordance with the departure order. After passing the pier heads, the division commander signals the first change of formation for the keel line with 14 units. At the same time, young naval officers are sweating on the bridges of their units, holding their navigator's notebooks in their hands and applying their knowledge of blind piloting in dense fog. Other young officers...
