In memory of the former Olpenitz naval base

on the harbour promenade
(opposite the Edeka supermarket)
a commemorative plaque / stele was inaugurated and handed over.
The chairman of the Marine-Offizier-Vereinigung e.V. Rear Admiral (ret.) Thorsten Kähler invites you to the handover followed by a reception to mark the inauguration.

Ladies and gentlemen, officers,
I would like to thank you very much for your successful, informative and entertaining event on the occasion of the erection of a stele in Olpenitz harbour.
It was a great event all round, which I enjoyed. It reminded me of my time in the navy (D185, A59, A1418) which will never be forgotten.

As an army reservist and citizen from the region, even though the Bundeswehr has brought me to Hambuerg, I welcome the MOV initiative. I would still prefer it today if we had S-boats like the 143A class, or had them again, and Olpenitz was a naval base; I very much regretted the end of the S-boats at the time. It would be nice if the stele reminded us that speedboats are indispensable for securing the Baltic Sea. Have a sunny and comradely day in June at the inauguration.
