First Virginia-class submarine stationed on Guam

The transfer of the Minnesota to the Pacific island places high demands on the logistics of the US Navy. The US armed forces are describing the arrival of the USS Minnesota on Guam on 26 November 2024 as a significant milestone for their navy and their strategic planning in the Indo-Pacific region. Editorial: Things are not going well

Recent maritime headlines are causing concern. Is the public aware of what is happening? Where do we actually stand in terms of maritime blindness? More than half a century ago, the German Maritime Institute and its marineforum set out to spread the "maritime idea" south of the Moin equator, something like this: "Understand that industry and trade, jobs and prosperity depend on the open sea and its access points. The Navy assumes that the contract for the new model will be awarded soon and expects it to enter service in the 2030s. This development comes as a surprise, as the US Senate wanted to cut 90 per cent of the development funds requested by the Navy for the F/A-XX in the middle of the year. It would now be possible for the Air Force...

Ukraine: New corvette makes progress

The Commander of the Ukrainian Navy has announced that the corvette Hetman Ivan Mazepa has successfully completed another round of its technical trials. The Ukrainian newbuild is based on the Turkish ADA class, a nationally developed submarine corvette (100 metres, 2,000 tonnes) with predominantly national technical components. The Mazepa, the first of two ships on order - with the option to expand to four units - was built at the RMK shipyard in Istanbul from September 2021. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky christened the ship in mid-August 2022 and it was launched by his wife at the beginning of October 2022. Since March 2024, the...
