Tender class 404 - Supply ships of the German Navy

In keeping with our mission #meerverstehen, we want to reach not only the insiders, but also those interested in the navy. That's why we are launching the series "What is actually... " Today: a tender? Definition: A tender boat is actually a dinghy. Anyone who has ever been on a cruise will be familiar with the term, as they often have more than a dozen of them. In the German Navy, however, a tender is a support vessel for the boat squadron. They supply corvettes, minesweepers and even submarines on the high seas with fuel, water, food, spare parts and ammunition. Australia - Patrol Boat Concentration Period

Small boats are booming again - the flourishing market for coastguard and combat boats known as offshore patrol vessels is the best proof of this. However, coastal and shallow water operations need to be practised, especially for OPVs, which are usually stationed and operated individually, if these boats are to function together on an ad hoc basis and provide a capability when required. It's the season in the South China Sea!

After the British Carrier Strike Group in August, another inconspicuous formation of carrier group and LCS frigate is sailing the sea area to show its colours and presence! The USS TULSA (LCS 16, Littoral Combat Ship) of the INDEPENDENCE class with its characteristic trimaran design complements the carrier group around the USS CARL VINSON Carrier Strike Group (CVN 70, VINCSG) during the scheduled Freedom of Navigation Operations in the sea area between the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam, which is claimed by China in violation of international conventions. The LCS, which is optimised for shallow water operations, contributes additional capabilities to the CSG, which are integrated into the carrier group's spectrum of surface and submarine...

DIAMOND has already had unpleasant experiences in the Mediterranean, but is now back on its own keel and passed through the Suez Canal at the end of August to join the CSG21 in the Western Pacific. What was officially described as "maintenance, inspection and any necessary repairs" at an Italian naval base...

Suez Canal - Surprising additional revenue

Despite the days-long closure at the end of March due to the accident involving the large container ship EVER GIVEN (20,124 TEU), Egypt achieved record revenues with the Suez Canal in the first half of 2021. According to the canal authority SCA, more than 9,700 ships travelled through the waterway in the first six months, around 200 more than in the same period last year. The fees collected for this amounted to around three billion dollars, an increase of 8.6 per cent. In the 2020/2021 financial year as a whole, which ended on 30 June, around 19,000 ships generated revenue of USD 5.84 billion. The EVER GIVEN has now returned to service after more than 100 days of...
