Cradle of technology

The navy has been training its junior technical staff in Parow for a quarter of a century. The breadth and quality of the training on offer is unrivalled. 28 March 2021 marked the 25th anniversary of the commissioning of the naval technical school in Parow, Western Pomerania. Started as a prominent measure in the "Army of Unity" project, it has gradually grown into the German Navy's training facility for (almost) all naval technicians. Mega-threat from mega-carriers

The effects of the accident in the Suez Canal can still be felt today. What are the limits for navigating rivers and canals with container giants? The container giant Ever Given attracted worldwide attention when it capsized at around 14:40 (UTC) on 23 March while passing through the Suez Canal, which is only 300 metres wide. Further passages by ships were subsequently no longer possible. Where have they gone?

After reunification in 1990, Germany's navy suddenly had hundreds of boats and ships at its disposal. Many of them were dispensable for political purposes and were sold or utilised worldwide. At the end of the Cold War in 1990, the Bundesmarine was a powerful and operationally ready navy capable of high-intensity combat. The insolvency of the MV Werften Group poses considerable challenges not only for the structurally weak region in north-east Germany.
