A first warning

In view of record order backlogs and the container ship deliveries expected between 2023 and 2025, the industry service Alphaliner has warned of possible overcapacity for the first time. For example, the usual peak season for container shipping in the third quarter of each year only had a much weaker impact in 2022, as was the case in the previous year. Alphaliner reports that many market observers consider these slumps to be less seasonal and more structural. They fear a global recession. War risks, exploding energy costs, political instability and general inflation would have an impact on general consumer spending and thus on global trade volumes, especially for industrial goods. By taking over the entire terminal business and the associated logistics services of the Chilean SM SAAM, the shipping company has become one of the largest terminal operators in South and Central America. The purchase price is said to be one billion US dollars. SM SAAM's terminal business comprises ten terminals in...

The high flyer

Our Person of the Year has not only become a focal point for the naval aviators. Captain Thorsten Bobzin has left his mark on the naval aviators in difficult times. In mid-November, Rear Admiral Jürgen zur Mühlen, Commander of the Task Forces and Head of the Operations Department, handed over command of the Naval Aviation Command from Captain Thorsten Bobzin to Captain Broder Nielsen. The cool weather did not deter the many invited guests from attending in large numbers. Bobzin faced numerous challenges during his time in command: He was jointly responsible for the introduction of the NH 90 NTH Sea Lion multi-purpose helicopter and had to...
