Inlet for the WTD 71

There is a lot of movement in the maritime fleet of the Defence Technical Service 71. Two more multi-purpose boats are due for delivery in the coming year. The Wehrtechnische Dienststelle für Schiffe und Marinewaffen, Maritime Technologie und Forschung, WTD 71, is looking forward to replacing three boats in its fleet. On 22 July last year, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) commissioned the Fassmer shipyard to manufacture and deliver two sea trials coastal measuring boats. Frigate 126 on course

The construction of the future German frigate class is making good progress. The client and shipyard are cooperating at a high level. The F 126 project - formerly MKS 180 - reached the most important milestone in its realisation to date on 19 June 2020 after a multi-year award procedure in the European competition: the conclusion of the construction contract with the Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding shipyard. What lasts a long time

To date, the introduction of an unmanned aerial vehicle for the Corvettes 130 has not been successful. A look at the project history reveals the reasons for this. An unmanned aerial system (UAS) was planned for the Korvette 130 at an early stage. This was initially aimed at the realisation of the SAATEG VTOL (Strategic Imaging Reconnaissance in the Depth of the Operational Area - Vertical Take-off and Landing), which was to be supplied by the Swiss company Schiebel. A joint introduction with the was considered in phases, as land-based deployment was also planned. Various unfulfilled requirement criteria, such as the use of the standard ship's...

Cradle of technology

The navy has been training its junior technical staff in Parow for a quarter of a century. The breadth and quality of the training on offer is unrivalled. 28 March 2021 marked the 25th anniversary of the commissioning of the naval technical school in Parow, Western Pomerania. Started as a prominent measure in the "Army of Unity" project, it has gradually grown into the German Navy's training facility for (almost) all naval technicians. The anniversary provides an opportunity to look back and look ahead and to analyse the current and future contribution of the MTS to the operational capability of the Navy in all its diversity. NGAD - US Navy fighter aircraft of the future

Even 37 years after the first F/A-18 entered service, the fighter aircraft still forms the core of the American aircraft carrier battle groups. Now the Navy is launching the development of a successor model - with and without pilots. The F/A-18 fighter aircraft still fulfils the requirements of the US Navy. Nevertheless, it is currently preparing plans for a successor. The system, previously known as Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD), is designed as a family of various manned and unmanned aircraft. The centrepiece is a fighter aircraft provisionally known as the F/A-XX. NGAD is to be introduced in the 2030s. Access marineforum digital+ Are you already a registered user? Log in here now...
